This is a heartfelt Australian comedy about a mother who tries to come between her son and his coming of age. Tim's (Khan Chittenden) mom Jean (Brenda Blethyn) is an over-the-hill obscene comedienne with the hope of making it in the business. Tim and his mentally challenged brother Mark (Richard Wilson) help her rehearse for shows and auditions. But the household seems to be the stage with all the chaos brewing everyday. Jean is always the center of attraction and expects to be.
One day reclused Tim meets and falls for an outgoing girl named Jill (Emma Booth). This is problems enough for Tim, because he has bad luck with girls. Not because of his looks or personality, but his mother. Jean feels threatened when it comes to her son's affection and feels a girl will break up their unique family. Even Mark finds a girlfriend in his world of mentally challenged. What's Jean to do? Cause havoc!
In this quirky, hilarous and emotionally touching story, Tim learns to manage the women in his life and takes a giant step to be himself. The plot in this movie gathers more and more as Tim's life becomes more complicated and Brenda Blethyn as Jean is fantastic. Each cast member gives 100% in a combination of drama and comedy, which makes this a very good movie.
