BUDRUS
USA/PALESTINIAN/ISRAEL
DOCUMENTARY
Directed by by: Julia Bacha
Running time: 82 min.
This is a compelling and incredible film of the small town of Budrus, a Palestinian town in the Ramallah and al-Birch Governorate northwest of Ramallah in the northern West Bank. The approximate population of the area is 1400 inhabitants.
Ayed Morrer is an unlikely community organizer until Palestinians from all political factions and Israelis save his village from destruction by Israel's Separation Barrier (The Fence). Victory seems improbable until his 15 year old year old daughter Ilezam launches a woman's contingent that quickly moves to the front lines.
Struggling side by side, father and daughter create an international protest movement that incorporates Israeli, South African, USA, Sweden and many other countries. With engaging film footage of their plight for a peace, this is rare and thought provoking film that inspires all who are fortunate to watch.
BRILLIANTLOVE
UK
NARRATIVE
Directed by: Ashey Horner
Running time: 97 min.
This is a sexy love story about two bohemian artists who lead an idyllic life until greed comes and disturbs their relationship.
Noon, portrayed by Nancy Trotter Landry, is the narrator of this tale. She is the doe-eyed girlfriend of the highly sexually oriented Manchester (Liam Browne). They live in a garage in the wastelands detached from the outside world. This allows them to indulge in their passions without distractions. Manchester is an Andy Warhol type who photographs their frequent intimate moments with Noon's approval. Somehow the couple's erotic photographs are discovered by a wealthy pornographer and connoisseur of erotic art. He launches Manchester's work to the art world.
With brilliant performances by Nancy Trotter Landry and Liam Browne, these two actors set the screen on fire. They challenge the boundaries of erotica by showing an enormous range in their craft.
