About the Tribeca Film Festival

This is the ninth Tribeca Film Festival. Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center. The festival was designed to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of the lower Manhattan district through an annual celebration of film, music and culture.

This year's Festival launches an exciting and engaging lineup of 85 feature films from 38 different countries, including 44 world premieres, 7 international premieres, 15 North American premieres, 6 U.S. premieres, and 12 New York City premieres. In addition to the feature lineup, the shorts program comprises 47 diverse works from both established and up-and-coming filmmakers.

"Shrek Forever After" will be the opening film for the Festival. This is the fourth installment of Dreamworks SKS Animation's series and the first in 3-D. Founder of Tribeca Film Festival Jane Rosenthal is quoted in saying,"Shrek Forever After, combines the very best in storytelling and artistry while showcasing the wonders of innovative 3-D filmmaking."

The Festival's mission is to help filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience, enable the international film community and general public to experience the power of cinema and promote New York City as a major filmmaking center. Tribeca Film Festival is well known for being a diverse international film festival that supports emerging and established directors. As of 2010, the Festival is run as a business by Tribeca Enterprises.
