Ian’s passion for filmmaking stems from his passion for people. At the age of 7, he started acting in theatre. He pursued this career up to the age of 18 until he came to realize that he, “couldn’t deal with being judged at casting anymore”.
But curiosity got the better of him. He picked up a camera and some projectors and started expressing himself within the London underground’s club scene (Blue Note…), and with that, pioneered the revival of the VJ culture.

As part of the collective Eikon, Ian directed videos for Levi’s, Guiness, Wrangler, as well as being Creative Director for the Diesel U Musik Awards. Music and fashion interlinked constantly so Ian naturally moved onto directing music videos. His passion for people and the underdog led Ian in and out of the established commercial world.

He finally signed to Independent/ Anonymous Content under the pseudonym emma in March 2004, for worldwide representation, but soon felt the need for a new challenge. So, with fellow producer Thomas Benski, they founded Pulse films (www.pulsefilms.co.uk) in October 2004.

Since then Ian as Emma has directed ad campaigns for Nike, Wal Mart, Daktarin, Observer, as well as keeping busy with promos for Tom Jones in collaboration with Fernando “Del’ Reginato, the Freemasons, Peter Gelderblom, Josh Wink, Spektrum.
