50 First Dates

I have watched 50 First Dates numerous times but was never inspired to review it until recently, for unexplained reasons. Best I can figure, I have officially decided I LOVE this movie!

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star in this movie about a girl who is stuck living the same day over and over. As a player, Sandler loves the newness and thrill of the hunt when it comes to women. With Barrymore's character, he learns he can have all of that plus the committment he secretly craves.

Similarly to The Wedding Singer, Sandler and Barrymore have a chemistry on screen that is both funny and endearing. Together they seem to bring out the best in each other. His moments of crazy, funny-voice antics are kept in check by Barrymore while her too-ditsy-to-be believed moments are kept in check by Sandler. Separately, I find them both entertaining, but together, they are a comedic duo that is guarranteed to encite laughter and, sometimes, tears.

In 50 First Dates, the balance between laughing, crying and mild nausea (it is an Adam Sandler movie afterall) is excellent and the movie itself is certainly one to have on-hand for a fun date night, chick-flick craving or general amusement.

Overall, I would give 50 First Dates a grade of A.

50 First Dates receives a grade breakdown as follows:

Story: A+. Simple, sweet and cute. The humor is in how the story plays out, not neccessarily in the story itself.

Acting: A. Sandler and Barrymore know how to run a film. They know how to be lovable while, at the same time, giving you elements of each character you dislike or would like to change. Typically, it's those very elements that change throughout the story, leaving you hopelessly loving bothcharacters by the end.

Originality/Innovation: B. Not the first amnesia story ever told but certainly unique, I feel, in it's simplicity and ability to tell a heartfelt story without getting trapped in the heavy drama of the situation.

Enjoyability grade: A+. I laughed til I cried at moments and then at other points reached out for those close by to share the "Ahhhh" moment with.

Overall grade: A. I think 50 First Dates has something for everyone.
Highly recommended for a date night.
