Fight Club
Since there has not been anything new on the horizon that has caught my interest for some time, I decided to review one of my absolute favoritemovies of all time, Fight Club.
Fight Club follows the story of a man, played by Edward Norton, who lives arather boring and mundane life. He feels disconnected from everyone aroundhim and tries to find attachment by attending various addiction/anonymousgroups, pretending to be alcoholic, depressed, etc. During this search hebefriends an unusual and eccentric guy, played by Brad Pitt, that begins toshow him other ways in which he can find human connection and himself.
This movie is brilliant! When I first went to see it at the cinema years ago, I was an unwilling date not wanting to endure another 'fight' movie.By the time the movie was over, I was enjoying it more than my very manly date. In fact, he was quite put off by the level of violence. I, on theother hand, found Fight Club to offer the perfect mix between violence, dialogue, plot and intrigue. Few movies have impacted me or made me thinkthe way this movie did.
I was a graduate student in politics at the time and I used Fight Club to explain so many political processes and systems, it was incredible. It is violent, with a name like Fight Club you can hardlysay you expect pink bunnies and love scenes. However, if you can get pastthe violence and come to see how it is an essential part of the storyline, not just gratuitous, I am sure you will come to see how amazing, thoughtprovoking and inspiring Fight Club can be. I would Fight Club an overallgrade of A+.
Fight Club would receive a grade breakdown as follows:
Story: A+. Very original and creative. Some parts I never saw coming.
Acting: A+. Both Nortan and Pitt did outstanding jobs.
Visuals: A+. Watching this movie on DVD is highly recommended. There are hidden 'clips' throughout that you can pause on which may help tell theunwritten story later on.
Originality/Innovation: A+. Again, little hidden elements just add to theoverall appeal and enjoyability of the movie.
Enjoyability grade: A+. This movie has something for everyone.
Overall grade: A+. This is a movie I recommend to everyone.
DVD extras: A+. Finally, a movie that takes full advantage of all the features that can be offered on DVD!
