GENERAL ARTIST STATEMENT

During my time in the university I had an interesting idea in my head about love, marriage and deception. I immediately wanted to create a shot animation film about these themes and started working on it right away. My first impressions were that married people were seeing "love" more as an obligation rather than a feeling. While love was unpredictable and random, marriage was repetitive. Love and marriage were two opposite terms, therefore they could not possibly exist together. If you were to ignore this fact and try to "force" love with unnatural means, you might even end up in funny situations.

Of course, this statement is originated from my own perspective, thus highly subjective. Everyone has his/her own opinion about romantic relationships...After the first brainstorming process, I began to shape a story in my head, mainly questioning the institution of marriage.

This is the synopsis of " Love and Marriage:" A horny woman tries to attract her workaholic husband by extraordinary methods but she seems to fail at her every attempt. At the end of the film she thinks she achieved her goals, but in fact she couldn't and she get into a foolish situation. The scenario has tragicomic results.

Phase of Concept Design and Production

There was three chracter in the film. The woman , the husband and the gigilo. I thought that all the characters must be characteristic attitude and also they must be opposite to each other. For example while; the wife is desirous , the husband is listless. While the husband is sentimental the jigolo is coarse...etc.

In the character designing Phase, I especially cared about the requirements of the story. I wanted to the characters must have a toon style. So I used exaggerated proportion. I also cared quite a bit about the simplicity of the designs for a beautiful stylisation of the characters and backgrounds. After designs became definite I prepared a modelsheet for each character, and background layouts with traditional methods. According to the flow of story, I drew a storyboard. After the storyboard I maked a 3d animatic. Camera motions, timing and character animation style...all of them appeared while making animatic.

I produced all in a 3d program (AliasMaya). Firstly, I modelled the characters and backrounds considering to designsheets . Than I prepared character setupsfor animate them suitably. There was totally two place in the scenes; a bedroom and a living room. They must have a romantic atmosphere and also a domestic house. The romantic atmosphere was achived by candles, soft and warm colours. The domestic impression was achived by tablecloth counterpane and armchairs. Me and my 3d instructor Ajlan Altug researched that how to reach shading and lighting effects we need in 3d . Ajlan Altug prepared textures (AdobePhotoshop) ,shadings and lighting setup . I animated the characters acording to timing specifid in animatic .After animation I rendered whole animations scene by scene. Ahmet Kenan Bilgiç made the "Love and Marriage" film musics and sounds. After the above process, I edited rendered scenes and musics in an editing program AdobeAfterEffects.
