Overman Biography

Phil Rice has been involved with "machinima" filmmaking since 1998, having collaborated on approximately thirty films in a seven year period. He comes at filmmaking first and foremost as a musician, sound engineer, and student of comedy. An active member of the community which has sprung up around this relatively new artform, Phil regularly contributes tutorials and advice to those looking to get their start. Since early 2006, he has hosted an animation and machinima themed podcast, which features views, commentary, interviews, and comedy performances.

Last year, Phil (known online by his nickname, "Overman") took on the role of Sound Designer for the large scale and critically acclaimed feature length production, "BloodSpell," directed by machinima pioneer Hugh Hancock. He also co-produced the 2006 Machinima Film Festival's winner for Best Series, "The Fixer," directed by T.F. Stallkamp, and scored the musical soundtrack for the 2006 Bitfilm Festival's Best Machinima Film, "The Days After," directed by Andre Pesch.

His most recent self-produced work, a music video for a song by Nine Inch Nails, has received much critical acclaim for its cinematography and design. Phil is currently at work on an animated mini-series, scheduled to debut later in 2007.
