Casshern
Here Is What You Need To Know:
-I really hate to slam films that look as good as Casshern but Casshern is deeply flawed. This 2004 film was an early adopter of the whole bluescreen thing and looks awfully cool. The largest problem with the script is that Casshern is really difficult to follow and just doesn’t make any sense for large chunks of the film. In short, it is a total mess, but looks really good. As far the story, I honestly don’t feel like getting into it, let’s just say the world is falling apart due to pollution and there is some mumbo-jumbo about original humans having unique super-cells which can save the every more sickly population.
What Was Cool:
-The visuals are really interesting, but this thing just doesn’t make sense. You can follow some of it, but other parts, best of luck to you.
What Was Stupid:
-Pretty much the whole script. Not much effort is made to make sure that, you the viewer, does not become lost. Characters are often poorly developed or not developed at all and many major plot points literally fall out of the sky…I am not kidding and they fall out of the sky without explaination. What is up with that?
The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
-There are some great technical accomplishments but it doesn’t make up for all the problems.
Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
-The guy who talked Dreamworks into getting involved with Casshern in any fashion. That guy should either be promoted or fired depending upon your perspective.

Visuals-Set Design/Props A
Wardrobe/Costumes A
Style/Sex Appeal C
Enjoyability Grade D+
Home Theater/HD Factor B
Overall Innovation B (Casshern is impressive on the technical end.)
Overall Grade D+ (Casshern is often pretty to look at but is so confusing and suffers from so many pacing problems, unexplained events and characters that in the end it just doesn’t matter. Honestly, avoid, but if you ever see a really cheap Blu-Ray down the road, it will look good in high-def, but only as eye-candy. Overall, avoid, as it took me five viewings to make it to the end.)
A Little Fact About Cherie:
I was looking forward to Casshern and was awfully disappointed. Also I am hoping to travel to Japan someday, where someone might be able to explain what the heck these filmmakers were trying to do with this film. Arg!
