Demolition Man
Here Is What You Need To Know:
Demolition Man is set decades into a future that is peaceful but hyper aware of cleanliness and is littered with repressed notions. Hey, at least its peaceful. A bad guy named Phoenix, played by Wesley Snipes, is thawed out of cryogenic sleep and begins to wreck havoc. The current law enforcement is completely in over their heads and must thaw out a police officer, Sly Stallone, from 1996 to deal with the menace. While frozen police officer John Spartan, yes they actually named their lead character, Spartan, played by Sly Stallone and Phoenix were pumped full of knowledge. Spartan learned trivial info whereas Phoenix was turned into a killing machine.
Demolition Man does touch on some interesting notions and has some fun moments. I have found that it is one of those films that many people have missed and its actually a simple, but fun movie, that does delve ever so briefly into some cool concepts.
What Was Cool:
-There is a lot of mayhem and destruction.
-A young Sandra Bullock is absolutely gorgeous!
-The concept of “programming” the sleeping mind is a fun one.
-Some of the weapons will entertain the boys who like to see things destroyed.
What Was Stupid:
-The premise of cryogenics being advanced enough to successfully freeze two people and bring them back is about as weak as it gets.
-Stripped of “programming” the mind of sleeping prisoners the script is fluffy, fluffy and is really just a big excuse for violence and destruction.
-The sea of product placement. Demolition Man was something of a trailblazer. Not good.
