Gavin Blackstock Biography:
Very little is known about eccentric Los Angeles filmmaker Gavin Blackstock. It is rumored that he was found, at the age of three, wandering the streets of Tecate, Mexico, covered in scorpion stings and wrapped only in an American flag. The locals who found him, gave him the name "el niño de veneno", or "the poison boy". Gavin is best known for his short documentary films focusing on life in Los Angeles. He now lives in Portland, Oregon with his girlfriend, Delane, and his dog, Shade.
Joe Forney Biography
“My parents moved to Plumas County (Northern California) just long enough that I could never say I was born in Los Angeles…the city that I love.”
-Joe Forney
Joe was born June of 1980 and raised in Northeast Los Angeles, in the same city as his father, and his grandfather before him.
He began making short films at the age of 12 on his parents’ VHS home video camera.
Joe’s love of documentary film, and his love for Los Angeles eventually lead to the creation of East of the Angels, a small production company devoted to producing documentary films focusing on life in L.A.
East of the Angels has produced several short documentaries, including Atlas Graffiti Documentary and El Gallo Tony (Tony the Rooster), a short documentary about ice cream men in East Los Angeles.
In 2005 Joe and his younger brother, Paul, founded The West Video Magazine. The now defunct West was a free DVD magazine featuring art, film, and music. Printed only in small numbers and distributed for free in stores all over Los Angeles, The West Video Magazine developed a loyal cult following.
Joe continues to live and work in Los Angeles.
“Los Angeles is my heart…when I die, bury my bones underneath L.A.”
-Joe Forney
