Summary
A Barber, a hitman and a fatman.
Directed by Jason Moola
Crouching Mole Films, 2007, 3 minutes, UK
eLEphaNt was written over a period of about a week, in response to an e mail for a 'Quickflix' short film competition. The theme was 'Quentin Tarantino in 3 mins or less.'
I wanted most of all to make a short that would stand on it's own without the need to rely on QT as a crutch for understanding the film. I also wanted to reference him in style rather than content, so I decided that I would attempt to emulate some of the camera moves from Reservoir Dogs, and Death Proof, which I found so eye catching, and black & white as a nod to the 'Gangster uniform' he repeatedly uses.
It was shot in a couple of hours at my friends Barber shop with two other friends, and my barber press-ganged into service.Due to technical, space, and time issues I couldn't get some of the shots I wanted, but as Elliott Grove at Raindance said 'Don't wait to shoot what you want, shoot what you've got!' Wise words.
We enjoyed making the film, and I am in the process of editing the prequel as I type this...
Hope you enjoy
Jason
