Kybele films is a feature film and TV production company based in Toronto, Canada. Currently, we're developing and producing the feature length films; Broken Eggs, a sci-fi/drama, Eyes of Dreams, a psychological drama, Shehname, an epic drama, God Nabu, a comedy, Barricade, a political drama and Lucid Dreams, a TV series.

 

Biography

SIBEL GUVENC, director/writer/producer B.F.A, B.Sc.

Born and raised in Turkey, Toronto-based writer, director
and producer Sibel Guvenc oversees the development,
financing and production of feature films and TV series for
Kybele Films, www.kybelefilms.com. She recently co-
wrote, directed and produced HUNGARIAN SALAMI in the
MAGIC, MYTH AND DREAMS series, which was
nominated for Best Comedy at the 60th Yorkton Golden Sheaf Awards (2007) and
is considered for Canada’s Top Ten Shorts 2007 by Toronto International Film
Festival Group. In 2006, Sibel received a Best Cinematography Award in New
York and a Bronze Award in Houston for her internationally acclaimed drama IN
THE PENAL COLONY (based on a short story by Franz Kafka) that she wrote,
directed, produced, composed and edited. She has been interviewed by
Deutches Welles, WHDH TV in Florida, Omni-TV in Toronto, Hindustan Times in
India and her film is programmed together with Orson Welles Kafka film in
Kolkata, India and alongside Philip Glass’s opera in Guarda, Portugal. In 2005,
she received a Best Abstract Film award in Toronto for PALETTE. An honor
graduate of Ontario College of Art and Design, Sibel received the William F.
White Prize for Proficiency in Film twice for STIGMA and ECCE HOMO. She
was awarded a director’s chair position in the 2007 session of ‘The Women in the
Director’s Chair Workshop’ in Banff, mentored by Lea Pool (dir. The Blue
Butterfly, Lost And Delirious, Emporte-Moi). Sibel was recently mentored as a
producer by Sandra Cunningham (co-prod. Being Julia, Where The Truth Lies,
Statement, Fugitive Pieces). Sibel was invited to 2007 Toronto International Film
Festival Talent Lab as a talented writer/director/producer selected from over 130
international applicants. Sibel is currently developing her features with Kybele
Films; BROKEN EGGS, a futuristic drama, EYES OF DREAMS, a psychological
drama, SHENAME, an epic drama and GOD NABU, a comedy, as well as a TV
series, LUCID DREAMS. Sibel Guvenc also holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in Statistics with high honors and she is the Community Enrichment Chair of the
Ontario College of Art and Design Alumni Council.
