Biography Continued: Rhett Brewer fuses Western and non-Western instrumentation and sounds together and often bridges the gap between classical, world and modern music sensibilities.  Having served on the jury for last year’s BAFTA music awards, as well as contributing music to six films in 2007 alone, Brewer’s creative output has increased dramatically.

Brewer’s recent album Hotel de Ville, marked a creative departure from earlier work fusing Classical instrumentation, a 60’s Cinematic undertone and Latin percussion recorded entirely at 60 BPM, or the resting rate of the human heart. Set for release in 2008, Brewer’s next album entitled Leaves in the Wind is a body of music from various film projects over the past few years, which spans the intimate and the epic.

Originally from New York, Brewer has lived and worked in London for over a decade.  He graduated from U.C. Berkeley in America with degrees in Composition and East European languages and literature. As an Artist, Brewer has brought together conventional composition with cinematic narrative into a multi-dimensional and distinctive sound, which transcends conventional lines of classification.

Favorite films or types of film

I love films that offer some form of illumination, whether that takes the form of an engaging dramatic story, characters that reflect something universal through something personal or cinematography and ensemble vision that inspires with a little magic. Some films I would recommend include The Insider, The Double Life of Veronique, The Life of Others, Babel, Metroland and Heading South.
