“Art is not just a choice, it is a passion. If it was not my job, it would be my distraction. I can’t help but think in pictures and compelling images.”
Of all the things which can drive creativity, the value of simply thinking different from the very first step towers above them all. Without technical skills, a creative endeavor is a process which lacks the final step. But without a passion for creativity, technical skills are the last step of a process that never really begins.
Dave Zak has dedicated himself to an intimate knowledge of the creative process. With a background in traditional art, music, and technical training in all forms of design, print, web, photography, 3D, animation, film and motion graphics, he has all the technical skills needed to execute on that creativity.
Through his home based studio, Handmade Media, Dave has participated in corporate and small business design projects which have included music videos, commercials, animated logos, fliers, web pages, business cards, sound work and branding. His software competency includes Maya, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Flash and After Effects. For a portfolio sample, please visit www.davezak.com.
However, far more than simply understanding design software and the principles of traditional art, Dave’s real contribution is that he lives in such a way that the backdrop of his life experiences present a different set of raw materials before the creative process even begins. Many designers work hard to find ways of extending themselves further and further from the same starting point. Dave has simply moved that starting point.
His purpose is to live a lifestyle of sustained creativity for the sake of something more. Dave wants to use his place in the developed world – and all the resources implied – for the benefit of the “voiceless” (those who cannot make their case known). Through cause based projects, he hopes to have an impact on some of our world’s most pressing social concerns.
Creativity drives ideas and ideas drive value – and that could change the world. Let Dave think different for you.
