Director Biography

Bert Brown, 27 years old, Astoria, NY. Graduate of Sarah Lawrence College.
Bert Brown has a thing for 2.5D. There’s something about flat images in z space that excites him. Combine that with his love of goofing with real images of himself and his band mates, and you get the video for “The Spare Room,” the first single off of Red Abbott’s Having Fun Without You.
Bert Brown also has a thing for square waves, old drum samples, and falsetto singing. Combine this with Chip Means on guitar/vocals, and Joe Madera on keys/vocals/helicopter midi sounds and you get three hometown friends producing a 12 track album, over the interweb, from their three respective states – New York, Maine, and North Carolina.
Red Abbott – www.redabbott.com, myspace.com/redabbott, - is a new idea in music production and sound. The album was made over long distances in a cycle of trading individual tracks and pieces to each other. The key, however, was that with each pass no real direction was given, either in terms of style, instrument, or end-goal . This process has been well received, and has landed Red Abbott in Popular Mechanics, The Boston Globe, and various other publications throughout the country and globe.
This unique process is demonstrated in the video for "The Spare Room." Smaller ideas get swooped up by the individual and transported to a collective space where they combine to become larger than life. The look of the environment is made to match the sound of the instruments in the song, as well as the process in which the sounds were conceived – computers bringing those in isolation - together. The video employs the concept that the child, now a man, feels when returning home to live in his old bedroom - now converted to "The Spare Room."
