Horton Hears a Who! Movie Review

HORTON HEARS A WHO!: WILL BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
A clever film based on a popular kids book, Horton Hears a Who! is silly and lighthearted. The movie was cast well with Jim Carrey as Horton and Steve Carell as the Mayor of Whoville, it is hard not to laugh with each line.
Horton (Jim Carrey) is an elephant that lives in the jungle. One day he hears something that he believes came from a speck. He catches the speck on a clover. He comes to realize that there is a whole world called Whoville on this speck. They have a Mayor (Steve Carell) who believes that there is something amiss. When Horton tries to talk to Whoville, the mayor is the only one who can hear him. Horton tells the Mayor that he is going to take the speck to a safe place. But Horton faces opposition from Kangaroo (Carol Burnett). She tells him that he will endure severe consequences if he continues on his current path. Meanwhile, the Mayor tries to tell everybody that their world is a speck. Both Horton and the Mayor face obstacles as each tries to save Whoville.
The story is from Dr. Seuss. It is sweet and funny with a message, a treat for kids and adults. The kids will delight in the Pokemon-like sequence. The adults will find references such as JFK hilarious. Jim Carry and Steve Carell bring child like antics to their characters. Horton is playful and lovable. The Mayor is earnest and high strung. Carol Burnett is wicked as the ignorant Kangaroo who only believes in what she can see, touch, or hear. Will Arnett is a riot as the evil Vlad. The opening scene of Horton chasing the speck is a sight. Chaos ensues as he storms through the jungle. He passes shooting monkeys using bananas as ammo. There are so many bright colors with so much to take in. But you shouldn’t expect anything less for a Dr. Seuss tale.
Horton Hears a Who! is a cute tale of an elephant trying to save a world only he can see. The cast inserts their humor and makes the characters even more adorable, making it fun for everyone even if you aren’t familiar with Dr. Seuss.
