I Love You Man Moview Review

I LOVE YOU MAN: WE LOVE YOU TOO

I Love You Man is what you call a bromance.  The story of a new friendship between two guys, it is definitely one of a kind.  Paul Rudd is the sweet, unsure one who doesn't know how to have guy friends and Jason Segel is the lovable slob he befriends. Great chemistry and hilarious moments call for a fun comedy.

Realtor Peter Klaven (Rudd) has just proposed to girlfriend Zoe (Rashida Jones). Then he realizes he has no guy friends that could stand in as his best man.  He turns to his family to help him find male friends.  Brother Robbie (Andy Samberg) introduces him to a weight lifter (Joe Lo Truglio) with a high pitched voice that embarrasses him at a Galaxy soccer game.  Mom (Jane Curtin) sets him up with a guy (Kris Edwards) who he goes out to dinner with and ends up getting hit on by the end of the night.  But then he meets Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) at one of his open houses.  They start up a friendship that makes Peter realize he can have guy friends.

We have all seen the buddy cop movies.  As popular as the Lethal Weapon movies are, my favorite is 1986's Running Scared.  I Love You Man is a new type of film. It deals with two guys becoming friends.  It is unique in that it doesn't resort to cheap, predictable humor.  Our hero Peter honestly doesn't know how to be friends with guys as he has always had girls as friends.  Watching him try to strike up a relationship with Sydney is humorous but sweet.  You can actually picture many guys trying to attempt the same thing without coming across as hitting on the guy.  And making it even more heartwarming are the performances by Paul Rudd and Jason Segel.  Rudd shows his ease with females by how he interacts with the women in his office.  But his attempt at banter with Segel's Sydney is almost too embarrassing to watch he is so awkward.  Sydney is a guy's guy with his own man cave.  It even has its own station for his -ahem- personal time.  He is a slob who lets his dog defecate on the Venice Beach boardwalk.  But Segel makes him the perfect counterpart to Rudd's shy Pete.  They have a chemistry that you can't fake.  They worked together in the also hilarious Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  Its obvious they have a lot of fun on set.  The film was shot around Los Angeles, CA.  The most memorable locations are Lou Ferrigno's house and the Venice Beach boardwalk. One shows the location that Peter is trying unsuccessfully to sell on his own and the other showcases Sydney's laid back lifestyle.

Bottom line, no matter how funny it is, nobody needs to see a dog go the bathroom on screen.

I Love You Man is a new way of looking at guys and their relationships.  With great performances by its two leads and a lot of very funny scenes, the movie will have its audience laughing throughout.
