Inception Movie Review

INCEPTION: THE WHOLE PACKAGE AND THEN SOME
Christopher Nolan is the complete package: Director, writer, and producer. He has gone from indie director (Memento) to blockbuster with a brain director (The Dark Knight). What he has done with Inception is fantastic, genius, and amazing. He has left no stone unturned (phenomenal cast, a story containing layers upon layers, and visuals that will astound) and leaves his audience feeling as if they have had the best meal of their life.
Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Arthur (Joseph Gordon Levitt) are a couple of thieves. But they are a special type, to put it mildly. They deal with corporate espionage by entering into people's dreams and stealing their ideas. When trying to complete a job, the man they are trying to steal from, Saito (Ken Watanabe) offers them a proposition. His competition's owner is on his death bed but has son Robert Fischer Jr. (Cillian Murphy) ready to succeed. Saito wants Robert to sell the company, piece by piece. In order for him to do that, Cobb and his associates need to plant an idea into his mind. Thus, performing an inception. Cobb brings on a new architect Ariadne (Ellen Page), with the help of his dad. She soon discovers that Cobb is battling the presence of his deceased wife Mal (Marion Cotillard) and it is affecting his abilities. Cobb finds that the completion of this job will bring him the one thing he wants most: to go back to his children.
Christopher Nolan knows that in order for a film to have any chance at being good, it must start with a storyline that captures its audience. Its simple enough, but so many films fail to deliver that. With Inception, just the idea of somebody having the capabilities to steal another's thoughts through their dreams is intriguing. And Nolan doesn't stop there. The attention to detail is flawless. One brilliant detail in the plot is what the thieves describe as the “kick”. It is an essential part of the story but yet it is so simple. And each character has their good and bad points. There isn't a defined villain or hero here. The cast is compiled of a who's who in Hollywood. Leonardo DiCaprio has long ago established himself as a leading man who can turn in a strong performance every time. And he has a track record that very few men can brag about. Not only does DiCaprio have the good looks but he always manages to bring an everyman quality to each of his roles.
Dom Cobb should be looked at as a bad guy, but its easier to sympathize with him because he just wants to get back to his family. And Marion Cotillard manages to play mind games with her husband by just imploring him with her eyes. She gives true meaning to the title femme fatale as Mal. So not only has Nolan managed to concoct a fantastic tale and assemble a great cast, the visuals are top notch. The budget has been reported as being as much as $200 million, and you can see where it went.
Little CGI was used for the sets, as Nolan had a lot of them created. And when you watch the film, you will see how truly astonishing that feat is. Just the suspension of gravity would have been awesome, but Nolan takes it even that much further.
Christopher Nolan is a talented man who creates the thinking man blockbuster. He proved it with The Dark Knight and he has brought a whole new world to his audience with Inception. It will change the way moviegoers think after giving them one hell of a ride.
