ROLE MODELS: FUN

Role Models starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd (who co-wrote the film) is predictable but funny. Its crass but sweet. Scott and Rudd make a good team as two guys who get their just desserts when they have to do community service. It makes you laugh and delivers a message.
Wheeler (Seann William Scott) and Danny (Paul Rudd) work for an energy drink company. Wheeler is a ladies man and Danny has girlfriend Beth (Elizabeth Banks). They are two completely different guys. They tour schools and tell kids to say no to drugs and yes to their energy drink. Danny has a life crisis one day and decides to propose to Beth. When she says no, he loses it during one of his speeches at a school. His actions lead to him and Wheeler having to complete 150 hours of community service or else they will go to jail. They end up at a Big Brother type program. Danny gets Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), an introverted boy who only comes alive when he takes part in a Medieval society that has tournaments. Wheeler gets foul-mouthed Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson), who has had his share of Big Brothers because of his energy and defiance. The men try to just get through the 150 hours without really participating in the boys lives. They eventually start to care about the boys and learn something about themselves.
The story is a bit predictable but has some hilarious one liners. The friendship that the men develop with the boys is real. The movie can't decide if it wants to be a raunchy comedy or about two guys learning about life from their little brothers. But somehow it works. Scott and Rudd are a perfect match. With Scott as the funny man and Rudd as the straight man. You can see their relationship change throughout as they grow up. Jane Lynch as their recovering drug addict boss is stupid and ridiculous. She has one funny line in the movie but other than that she is just irritating. Mintz-Plasse is adorable as the misunderstood Augie. He is most known for his role as “McLovin” in Superbad. Thompson is right on as the hyper Ronnie. The Medieval tournament scenes are the best to watch, especially the film's climax. Let's just say you will never look at the band KISS the same again.
The movie has a lot going for it except for the story's transparent plot. You can pretty much guess how the movie will end.
Role Models is an entertaining film about two men acting like children. It takes them having to look after two actual boys to get them to mature. There is some lewd humor combined with an underlying message.
