Sex and the City 2 Movie Review

SEX AND THE CITY 2: DECADENT
Its Sex and the City 2, and Carrie and the girls are back. The film is as rich as a piece of chocolate cake. Its not necessarily good for you, but still fun to watch. The cheesiness almost brings the film down. But costume designer Patricia Field outdoes herself.
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and John Preston (Chris Noth) have been married for two years. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is a stay at home mom to her two girls. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is back with Steve (David Eigenberg). And Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is happily back in New York. All girls are dealing with obstacles. Carrie is adjusting to married life with the love of her life and the supposed roles that come with that. Charlotte is going crazy with her daughters Rose and Lily. Miranda is having problems with a new partner at her law firm. And Samantha is tackling her age with every hormone and vitamin known to man. So when Samantha presents the ladies with an all expense paid trip to Abu Dhabi, they all jump on it. The trip takes them on an adventure that goes beyond their dreams and hopefully makes them appreciate what they have at home.
The story is not as dramatic as the first one. There are realistic issues that each of the women deal with. Carrie comes across as more of a spoiled brat this time around, not appreciating what she has. For the first time since the show began, it is hard to empathize with her character. The girls are wonderful as these four friends who are each other's soul mates. And it's nice to see some of their roles have changed. Miranda isn't so serious and is more of a caretaker this time around. Cynthia Nixon brings warmth and strength. Samantha is back to her over the top sexual antics. This is fun to watch after seeing her in a monogamous relationship in the first film. Kim Cattrall has a great time playing her and it shows. And then there is the scenery and the costumes. The film was shot mostly in Morocco, which stands in for Abu Dhabi. Extravagant hotels, gorgeous beaches, and camel rides across the desert are all a part of the story. The hotels are breathtaking with the ornate details of gold and jewel tones. Which is also seen in the girls apparel. Every outfits tops the last. Carrie gets the royal treatment with vibrant head wraps, billowy skirts and dresses, and dresses with slits up to HERE. Her outfit in the marketplace is to die for. Patricia Field pushes all boundaries and its all for the audiences' enjoyment.
A number of cheesy moments take away from some of the more serious moments.
Sex and the City 2 won't be remembered for its meaningful storyline. But oh, the clothes and backdrop. It is a good time.
