Sicko
SICKO: GETS ITS POINT ACROSS
BY
STEPHANIE M. WILSON
Michael Moore is America’s conscience with films like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine. Some love him, some hate him. But he does make you think. With Sicko itis no different. What he uncovers within our health insurance companies is shocking. Some of his critics call him a propagandist. But again, he starts a discussion.
Michael Moore targets the U.S. healthcare system in his latest documentary. He knows that it is more of a profit business rather than helping people get well. He asks people for their insurance stories. He gets over 25,000 responses in a week. He touches on a few of them. He also goes to Canada, Great Britain, Paris, even to Cuba to see how their health care works. He finally tries to take a few 9/11 workers to Guantanamo Bay to get them the same healthcare that Al Qaeda terrorists are receiving.
These are outrageous stories of U.S. citizens not getting the healthcare they deserve. It will literally make you sick. It would be naïve to think that Moore doesn’t use the most extreme cases. But he is trying to get his point across and he most certainly does. He makes you question your government, even if you don’t agree with him. These stories being told by the victims of the system is enough to make you cry. Or make you want to move to Canada.
Showing the other side of the coin would have only enhanced the film. Show some stories of people getting the coverage they need when they need it without any hassles.
Michael Moore will make you want to start a rally in protest. He goes for the jugular. He doesn’t hold back on insurance companies the same way he has with George H.W. Bush. He makes you think.
